Hip-Hop Dance Classes in Kitchener
Foundational hip-hop movement for every level — from your first groove to freestyle confidence.
Who hip-hop classes are for
First-time dancers
Our beginner drop-in classes are designed so you can walk in with zero experience and walk out with a real combination you practised and landed.
Music video lovers
If you watch music videos and want to do what you see, hip-hop is the place to start. Commercial style is foundational vocabulary for almost all pop dance.
Dancers cross-training
Contemporary, heels, and jazz-funk dancers find that hip-hop groundwork improves their groove, isolation control, and freestyle confidence across all styles.
Teens and adults
Our adult classes are a judgment-free zone. Everyone is learning. The instructor paces the class so the whole room can follow.
What to expect in a hip-hop class
Hip-hop at Kollective covers the foundational grooves, isolations, and freestyle vocabulary that form the backbone of street dance. Classes range from beginner drop-ins (perfect for your very first week) to more advanced sessions exploring commercial and cypher styles.
Each class opens with a groove warm-up designed to get you into the music before learning any choreography. Then the instructor breaks down the combination — phrase by phrase — until the whole room can run it clean. You leave every class with something you can actually use.
Classes are taught by instructors with backgrounds in competitive hip-hop, music video work, and years of adult teaching experience. They know how to meet you exactly where you are.

What students say
“The first thing I noticed about classes at Kollective was how welcoming of an atmosphere Kezea created. At my previous dance studios it felt like nobody really cared, but at Kollective if I'm not there people will notice (in a good way!). It's a wonderful safe space from all the toxicity and competition often found in other studios.”
“Kezea is one of the most creative, patient, and dedicated people I’ve ever met. Her passion for dance is absolutely contagious, and her teaching style strikes the perfect balance between challenging and fun. She has an incredible gift for pushing you out of your comfort zone while still building on your pre-existing strengths. Every class with her will challenge you in the best way possible. Even after moving an hour away, I still made the trip to attend her classes — I simply couldn’t get enough.”
Frequently asked questions
- Is hip-hop dance good for beginners?
- Yes — we offer beginner drop-in hip-hop classes specifically designed for people with no dance background. You’ll learn grooves, isolations, and basic freestyle vocabulary from scratch.
- What style of hip-hop do you teach?
- Classes cover foundational street dance styles — groove, popping, locking, and freestyle — as well as commercial hip-hop seen in music videos. Levels are clearly marked so you can find the right class.
- Do I need to be in good shape to start?
- No. Hip-hop is as much about timing and style as athleticism. Beginner classes are accessible regardless of fitness level. You’ll build endurance naturally over time.
- What should I wear?
- Comfortable, loose clothing you can move freely in. Sneakers with good ankle support are recommended. Avoid jeans or anything that restricts hip movement.
- How big are the classes?
- Small — typically 8–14 students. Big enough to create energy, small enough that you get individual attention from your instructor.
- Where is Kollective Studios?
- 259 King Street West, Unit 203, Kitchener, ON N2G 1B1 — downtown Kitchener, second floor above King Street.
